Morning arrival in South Africa, your guide will meet you at Johannesburg’s O R Tambo International Airport. Depart to Pretoria for a city tour that includes the Voortrekker Monument, Paul Kruger House, Church Square and Union Buildings. Lunch in Pretoria. Overnight at charming little lodge near the airport, dinner at the lodge.
Travel via Middleburg, Belfast, Dullstroom, Lydenburg and “Robbers Pass” to Hazyview situated in the province of Mpumalanga. Visit the old gold rush town of Pilgrim’s Rest a museum in its entirety. Overnight in Hazyview.
Travel the “Panorama Route” of the majestic Drakensberg Mountains, admire the natural beauty of the Blyde River Canyon – the third deepest canyon in the world, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and God’s Window. Depending on availability – An evening of African culture with singing, dancing and dinner at Shangana, a traditional Shangaan village, meet the chief with his 3 wives and 36 children. Overnight in Hazyview.
Depart for the world-renowned Kruger National Park (KNP), visit Moholoholo Animal Rehabilitation Centre and Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (Kapama Cheetah Breeding & Research Centre). Enter the KNP through Orpen Gate, enjoy the rest of the day in the KNP. Dinner can be enjoyed at the camp’s restaurant. Overnight in the KNP.
Enjoy a full day traveling south in the KNP in search of the “Big 5” and a host of other animals. Dinner will be served as a traditional “potjie’ – stew cooked by your guide, good luck. Overnight in the KNP.
Optional activities: Evening / sunset game drive in an open vehicle with the local ranger.
Today we travel through the mountain kingdom of Swaziland to Zululand. Lunch along the way. Overnight on a private game reserve situated near the small town of Hluhluwe. Dinner will be served at the camp – traditional bush braai. Overnight at Bonamanzi.
This morning you have an option of joining the ranger on a game walk, rest of the morning at leisure. This afternoon we travel to the Hluhluwe / Umfolozi Game Reserve for an exciting open vehicle safari with the local ranger, in by-gone years this reserve was the hunting grounds of Zulu Kings. Dinner at the camp’s restaurant. Overnight on Bonamanzi.
Take a cruise on the St Lucia estuary, a lake riddled with crocodiles and hippos in the Greater St Lucia Wetlands, which is one of South Africa’s six UNESCO world heritage sites. Depart after the cruise to the beautiful Nkwalini Valley and Shakaland for lunch, check into hotel. Enjoy Zulu hospitality at its best with a traditional Zulu festival at Shakaland, dinner at the hotel.
A day of history and battlefields, visit places that still exude an ambience of a once mighty Zulu nation, such as the “Battle of Blood River”, the Anglo-Zulu war battlefields of Isandlwana and Rorke`s Drift. Overnight in Dundee.
Travel to Giants Castle in the Natal Drakensburg mountains also known as the “barrier of spears” via the historical town of Ladysmith, stop on route for lunch and a visit to the “Siege Museum”. All meals are served at the lodge’s restaurant. Overnight in the Natal Drakensberg Mountains.
A day at leisure in the beautiful Natal Drakensburg Mountains where Bushmen left their life stories in the form of paintings and drawings on the rocks and in the caves. Visit Giants Castle cave for a guided tour or take a walk along one of the numerous nature trails in this park. All meals are served at the lodge’s restaurant. Overnight in the Natal Drakensberg Mountains.
Travel the “Oliviershoek Pass” to the village of Clarens and the Golden Gate Highlands National Park. Spend the afternoon relaxing at the hotel or take a walk along one of the numerous nature trails in the park. Horse riding and game drives are also available.
A day of traveling through the picturesque Eastern Free State visiting small towns such as Ficksburg, Ladybrand and Zastron. Overnight at Tussen Die Riviere / Gariep Dam Nature Reserve.
Travel to the historical town of Graaff-Reinet known as the “Gem of the Karoo”. Spend the afternoon in the Karoo National Reserve and the “Valley of Desolation”. Evening at leisure. Overnight in Graaff-Reinet.
After a leisurely breakfast we depart for Oudtshoorn the capital of the Klein Karoo (semi desert area). Afternoon at leisure. Overnight in Oudtshoorn.
Visit Cango Wildlife Ranch, Safari Ostrich Farm and the impressive Cango Caves. Overnight in Oudtshoorn.
Travel via “Outeniqua Pass” to George a 60km drive that reflects the great diversities of nature South Africa has to offer. Drive along the “Garden Route” to Knysna. Visit the “Big Tree”, Bloukrans and the Storms river suspension bridge in the Tsitsikamma National Park. Overnight in Knysna.
Morning at leisure in Knysna. Take the ferry across the Knysna lagoon to the Featherbed Nature Reserve for a 4 x 4 trailer-ride tour and a hike to the western head of the estuary. Evening of leisure. Overnight in Knysna.
Drive to Cape Town in the whaling season via Riversdale, Swellendam and Hermanus, which is known to have the “best land based whale watching in the world” and the rest of the year along the scenic “Route 62”. Optional and weather permitting – we take the cableway up Table Mountain. Dinner will be served at a restaurant on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Overnight in Cape Town.
Take a scenic drive around the “Cape Peninsula”, which was proclaimed by Sir Francis Drake as the “Fairest Cape in the whole circumference of the earth”. Visit Hout Bay and the Cape Fur Seal colony on Duiker Island, Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, Cape of Good Hope, Cape Point an the Boulders – Penguins. Have lunch at one of the numerous restaurants in Simonstown. Overnight in Cape Town.
A day to do what you please – shopping or just relax at the hotel or optional – visit Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens or you could visit Robben Island, the place where Mr. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 17 years. Overnight in Cape Town.
Wine tasting and cellar tour at one of the wine estates along the Cape’s world-renowned Stellenbosch Wine Route, also visit the quaint historical towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Enjoy sundowners on Signal Hill before your farewell dinner at Vijff Vlieghen (Five Flies) Restaurant. Overnight in Cape Town.
Late morning departure for a tour of South Africa’s beautiful Mother City, this tour includes the Castle of Good Hope, Parade Ground, City Hall, Houses of Parliament, Tuinhuis and the Dutch East India Company Gardens. Lunch at the V & A Waterfront, time for last minute shopping and weather permitting an optional helicopter flight over the “Cape Peninsula”. Transfer to Cape Town International Airport in order for you to catch your flight home.
